8-11-2010

We arrived safely in Johannesburg about an hour later than anticipated. Thankfully, Liezel and Laurie Theron picked us up with our recently purchased Toyota van so that we didn't have to negotiate the roads out of a large city while driving on the opposite side of the road. As it was Liezel took a wrong road and about a half hour later we were on our way toward their "farm" south of Nelspruit. We finally arrived at about 11:00 PM South Africa time, finishing twenty-nine ours of travel time from St. Peter.

The "farm" is actually a tree plantation on 18,000 hectares that Pieter Theron manages. Pieter and Liezel are the parents of Laurie (14 year-old boy) Franzel(12 year-old girl) and Francois (9 year-old boy) that make up the family that has invited us into their home for the next four months. Liezel is the FIRST Lego League robotics coordinator in the Nelspruit area.
